REAL PETS

Chester

Chester is a little terrier that we got at the pound. At his shoulder, he's about a foot tall, so he's not very big. As for his personality, he's independent. He's the kind of dog who won't come to you for affection, but still likes to be in your company. Also, when he's hyper, he's REALLY hyper. And when he's lazy, he's REALLY lazy. (Chester has mastered the art of sleep.) Chester is also a tolerant dog. He gets annoyed if you bug him while he's sleeping. He just gets up, moves, and falls asleep in another place. You can poke him, dress him up, throw pillows at him, whatever—and he takes it all in stride. He's clever at some things, like figuring out problems. One example of this was trying to get up onto the table where our pet hamster’s cage was. (It's a terrier's instinct in life to kill rodents, btw.) It’s a long story, but he did it—figuring it out and surprising all of us. But sometimes, Chester can be really dumb. He runs at moving cars to greet them. He attempted to take on a coyote once. One winter, he walked on thin ice on our pond, and my sister had to jump in and save him from doggie hypothermia. (The pond is shallow, don't worry. Everyone was ok.) But all in all, he's the best dog ever. He’s nice and quiet, and his personality fits our family lifestyle and our farm life perfectly. We really love him.

Lucas

This is Lucas, our new puppy. You probably shoudn't let these innocent eyes fool you. He's really annoying with his biting and loose bladder, but we stick with it. He's really clumsy, and he'll eat anything. Even if it's dead. Despite his appetite for things deceased, we can tell he'll be a great family dog in the future. Hey! Notice that he matches chester almost perfectly! Fur color, eyes, even spot location! XD

Nellie

November 5 2007

This black dog here was Nellie Beth. We called her Nellie. Sometimes we called her Smelly. I called her Nellerd. She was a lab mix, and was pretty old. She was a medium sized dog—around the size of a cocker spaniel. She was opposite from Chester. She was shy around strangers, and she clinged to my sister for constant, never-ending affection. She did this weird break dancing thing sometimes to scratch her back. It was disturbing, because she moaned and squirmed on her back, twisting around with her feet kicking the air. Nellie was a hardy outside dog. She barked a lot sometimes. She was also slightly intimidated by Chester's vibrant and hyperactive personality. Maybe he freaked her out a little… And though she was old, man, she could still have fun! She swimed in the pond, played fetch with toys, and raced all over and played tag with Chester. Nellie was a great dog to hug. There was just something about her that made her huggable. She was very loyal and affectionate. She was a great farm dog who loved life.
